As you guys know I have been using FOREO LUNA 2 for a while now, well it’s been almost 5 months now! I am pretty happy with how it works and I will break it down for you guys, the good and the bad both! But before I get on that, here’s a quick snapshot on what the device is and how it works.
What is LUNA 2 by FOREO?
The LUNA 2 is a facial cleansing brush made of medical-grade silicone. Based on your skin type, you can pick the one that works for you. It is available for Normal, Combination, Sensitive and oily skin types. Using T Sonic pulsations, the LUNA 2 gently exfoliates the skin to remove dead cells, unclogs pores, removes dirt and oil and any makeup remnants. This is one side, the other side is for anti ageing purposes. It helps reduce fine lines and wrinkles using lower frequency pulsations. The packaging comes with its charger (& storage bag). I charged it when I got it and haven’t had to charge it again so far.
Why breakouts happen?
I have a super oily, acne prone skin. The reason for breakouts is not just hormonal changes but also my giant pores which would often get clogged due to excessive makeup usage, all thanks to my profession. I was desperately looking for something that would ensure my face gets properly cleansed and pores aren’t clogged. Fortunately, I got the opportunity to try out the FOREO LUNA 2. To be honest, I wasn’t expecting wonders. I have tried other cleansing brushes in the past but was never happy with any of them. So when I got my hands on this device, I wasn’t expecting what happened later. I was just desperate because at this point my skin had been breaking out badly.
LUNA 2 is quite easy to use and here’s a video where I talked about my experience in brief and shared a demo on how to use it:
My experience with LUNA 2
Now as you can see in the video, I did have a few hiccups when I had just started using it. It aggravated my breakouts and made my skin too dry. I wasn’t sure what was going on and I didn’t want to just give up that easily as literally, everyone was talking about LUNA 2. Almost after a week I realised, I was probably overdoing it. So, I don’t get facials done at all as massaging always gives me breakouts and same way, despite of having oily skin ,washing too much does dry out my skin. I tried to use the same rationale for next few days with my LUNA 2.
I gradually decreased the pulsations and the duration I used it for and voila! by the end of second week, I hit the spot. Using it once a day (at night) with medium pulsations for thirty seconds is what works for me. During winters I use it 4-5 days a week now. So basically, I would suggest you guys to be patient with the device for a couple of days and figure out what settings work for you and trust me you’d be more than happy with what it does to your skin!
From my experience, this is what the FOREO LUNA 2 has done for me:
- Everyday gentle exfoliation leads to dead cells removal almost every day leading to smoother texture of my skin over time. The makeup settles even better now!
- My biggest concern was my everyday usage of makeup and gym sweat clogging my pores giving me breakouts. LUNA 2 literally pulls the dirt and everything out keeping them clean. My breakouts have definitely reduced by a lot!!
- I don’t really use the anti ageing side much but it definitely helps the night creams and serums settle in the skin better.
LUNA 2 for active breakouts
A lot of you asked me over DMs / comments in the past if the device can be used during active/cystic acne. I would suggest not, let the breakouts calm down, use on other areas of the face light pulsations maybe and once your skin is feeling better, get back to it.
But you also need to understand that while the device helps in taking care of breakouts caused by external factors (dirt, sweat, makeup etc), it can’t help with acne caused by internal factors like the hormonal issues, unhealthy diet, dehydration, stress and so on.
LUNA 2 – A one-time investment
As far as the price is concerned, I know the price is steep (around INR 19k on Sephora) but take it more like an investment! I mean while we spend thousands on various night creams and serums easily, we tend to get shy about trying out a device such as this because of the price. But trust me, this goes a long way!! Since you don’t need to keep buying brushes for it, one charge can last for months and you do see results, it’s a one-time investment in the skin. Further, it’s waterproof and easy to clean, hence low maintenance. Knowing it’s quite heavy on the pocket, I wouldn’t have recommended it unless I was really happy with the device and I am! It’s totally worth the money.
Let me know if you guys are already using it or if any of you purchase it. These are available at Sephora and the staff at FOREO counters are helpful and trained enough (speaking from personal experience) to help you pick the device that works best for you.
I hope you guys do check it out! Let me know if you guys have any more queries about the FOREO LUNA 2 and I would be happy to answer them!
