Resort Wear 101

I often receive emails/messages of girls asking how to shop for a beach vacation so here I am sharing all I could about what to wear to beach!

Now is beach vacation all about bikinis? Certainly not!

That’s where Resort Wear comes in. So what is a resort wear to get started with first. Technically speaking, Resort wear is a clothing style, as well as a year-round fashion “season”. Sometimes known as “cruise wear”, something easy to pack, lightweight, and comfortable to wear while vacationing in the tropics. On a more generic basis it is what you would wear to a beach or a cruise or even by the pool maybe.

Resort wear typically includes caftans, flowing skirts, tanks and sleeveless tops with low necklines mostly, playsuits and dresses with shorter hemlines and deeper necklines. It also includes flowy and loose gowns, to be worn in evening over a bikini. Swimsuits and cover-ups are too resort wear, the concept varies designer to designer.

I like how resort wear pieces like caftans, wraps, gowns and cover-ups are perfect for those beach/pool days when you’re not really comfortable showing too much skin (whatever the reason be) without killing the vacation vibe. Besides that, when you are out on a beach or pool all day, having your meals and taking long walks too around, these pieces are just perfect to solve the purpose!

While picking resort wear pieces for yourself, here a few pointers

~ Something that goes with most of your swimwear.

~ Something that complements your body type and structure.

~ Something you’d be comfortable with like if you are not much into showing off too much legs, you can flaunt a deeper neckline or vice versa without having to feel out of place at the beach/pool side.

~ You can team your resort wear with cute accessories like a beach hat, beach bag, flip flops etc.

~ Buy something you’d be confident and comfortable wearing, that’s the most important thing.

~ If you’re heading for a beach destination wedding or planning a stay at a luxury beach resort, it’s always a great idea to invest in some designer pieces.

Here I am wearing a Sukriti & Aakriti resort outfit in lavender colour with silver gota patti work. The fabric is organic cotton, and the semi-sleeves are bell shaped with a slit at the back side to give it a more flowy relaxed appeal. It’s more like a wrap with latkans at the tie, which I think looks incredibly cute. It has this desi-boho vibe to it and I can’t wait to wear it to my next beach vacation (hopefully soon!).

I had a fun time shooting the look at the Westin, Hyderabad especially while munching on the superfoods.
