Little Things That Matter

By  |  7 Comments

While I am trying to keep up with my running regime (ok still more like a walk-jog think) but I figured making a little changes in my lifestyle in general would help me lose weight and get fitter with a holistic approach. It’s been some time since I adopted these changes or ‘lifestyle modifications’, and can feel the difference. Nothing major but as they say, little things matter too.

But before I list that, must tell you guys that I’m running with a 3-day 30-45 min ‘On the Feet’ kinda schedule  as distance goals just tire me out. Having a time goal also gives one time to process the meditative thoughts as well as stay attuned to the body!

Listing these here to share with you guys in case any of these work for you:

(1) The initial first month, I did this 30 day ab-squat challenge, it did help me a bit more with the stamina and tone up a bit. Planning to do it again! For the squats, it is very important to wear high-grip Training shoes when doing floor-work. I use my Grete boost running shoes for these as they have good lateral grip!

(2) Made a chart/time table for what days to eat out/order food to keep a track and control eating out/junk. Like I assigned, 4 meals a week are allowed (out of 3 meals/day/week, 21 meals a week in total). So we usually now eat 2-3 meals out on weekends and maybe 1 take-away during the week when I have too much work to cook anything. This helps me in not going overboard with junk!

(3) Have switched to slim milk from full cream one.

(4) We used to miss breakfast a lot earlier, now we don’t, and usually eat boiled eggs, cereals or sandwiches in brown bread with veggies and cheese.

(5) Have increased the intake of proteins in general, which helps getting fit quicker of course. I don’t cook much rice as it is and stick to multi-grain flour for chapatis.

(6) For snacking in between the meals, we eat dry fruits like almonds, walnuts and more. Plus have bought some healthy snacks like these from snackible insted of the regular biscuits & savoury snacks!

(7) I consume a lot of green tea, like 3-4 mugs a day which helps the metabolism. Green tea with no sugar or even honey of course.

(8) Reduced my sugar intake.

(9) Increased water instake and going easy with those cocktails and beer too now!

(10) Have started using olive oil for cooking for non-Indian recipes, will probably switch to olive oil for Indian recipes too.

What I am planning to do next:

  1. Start eating cottage cheese too (fresh from a dairy) with bit of salt and pepper for snacking. I am not a fan of sprouts well!
  2. Increase my intake of fruits.
  3. Get into making smoothies, detox water and salads maybe.
  4. Run more!

Hope this post helps and in case you guys have any suggestions or any such experiences to share please do write to me!

Much Love,

P

Thanks pallavi. Nice write up. I’ve been following a strict watch what I eat too for close to a month now. No carbs, no sugar to be precise, with the occasional cheat meal. After a week I saw no change and was frustrated. That’s when it hit me to incorporate a physical activity atleast 5 times a day. I now do zumba twice a week and run thrice a week (similar to your walk-jog thing) and noticed it really revs up your metabolism. I feel lighter too. ?. Thanks for additional tips, will definitely try most of it. More power to us?.
