All You Need To Know About VLCC DNA Skin

By  |  4 Comments

I recently attended a bloggers meet hosted by VLCC. The purpose of the bloggers meet was to inform us and talk about VLCC’s new skincare program, the VLCC DNA Skin.

The concept behind the VLCC DNA Skin is pretty interesting and there’s a lot of research done behind this skincare program. But before I divulge more details about the VLCC DNA Skin,

Here are biological processes you must know your skin goes through:

1) Collagen Dehydration/Synthesis – Collagen is for skin firmness, and as we age collagen production decreases.

2) Antioxidants – Our body produces antioxidants (besides just receiving that in our diet from Vit. E and Vit. C rich food), which protect our skin from free radicals to aging.

3) Skin Hydration – Ability for skin to hold water and glycerol

4) Sun Protection – UV radiations damage the skin, while skin has certain repair proteins that can help recover the damage but if those proteins don’t work due to any mutation, then it’s not going to be good!

5) Skin Sensitivity/Inflammation – Inflammation is our body’s immune/allergic reaction. Sometimes due to genetic makeup, some people have over sensitive skin.

6) Glycation (Damage from Sugar) – Excess sugar cause degradation of collagen, formation of free radicals and premature skin aging!

Now, coming back to VLCC DNA Skin, let’s start with basics. DNA (Deoxyribonucleic acid) is the molecule that determines and controls biological functioning. The human DNA sequence is 99.9 per cent identical across all human beings. The 0.1 per cent variation in the sequence of human DNA is one of the major reasons of the variability that is observed in the physical traits and biological functioning of humans across the world.

At the meet, Dr Yasmin, the skin specialist and the VLCC team explained us how the VLCC DNA Skin care therapy works:

DNA controls the look, feel and health of skin by up to 70 per cent (the rest is determined by the environment). So in the VLCC DNA Skin care program, your buccal swab (basically collecting your saliva from the buccal cavity or mouth to study your DNA) will be taken and tested. The test will identify variations that could be responsible how your skin looks now. So if you suffer from skin issues such as acne, breakouts, skin aging and more. With VLCC DNA Skin, your DNA matched skincare products and therapies will be given to you for a good facial skin!

I like how the approach is not just scientifically based but also it’s a more of a personalized and customized approach for each individual. Generic therapies and products may or may not work for everyone. What may work for my acne issues may not work for you right? That same logic is used. Hence your DNA gets to decide what therapy you need for your skin issues.

During the Q & A session, I asked Dr. Yasmin that since besides the genetic makeup, it is also the environment we live in and things we are exposed to plus, hormonal profiles and other biochemical or medical issues we may have, can too affect the skin, so how does the program take care of that. She told me that when they profile a person for therapy, all the medical and personal history is taken into consideration and therapies are given keeping all that in mind too. She further added, that they have a panel of doctors working on each case.

Reason why I decided to share all this on the blog is because I am pretty convinced with the concept myself and felt like informing you all too! So in case you’d want to try the VLCC DNA Skin program yourself, the service will be available at all VLCC Centres across India.

Here are few pictures (clicked from my phone) from the bloggers meet:
