An Evening With Books, Wine & More

Yesterday I attended the launch of the much-awaited and anticipated, Amish Tripathi’s latest book, The Scion of Ikshvaku, the first book in the Ram Chandra series, at Taj Krishna, Hyderabad. Amala Akkineni graced the occasion as the guest of honour. Mr. K Mohanchandran, Area Director, Hyderabad and General Manager – Taj Krishna, was in conversation with the author (which according to me was the highlight of the evening). Amish, much to the delight of his admiring fans, answered all queries in his typical unassuming style.

About the book, Amish quoted “It’s my fictional and respectful interpretation of the Ramayan. It speaks of the struggles that Lord Ram went through as he fought to establish the perfect empire.”

Amish’s Shiva Trilogy — The Immortals of Meluha (2010), The Secret of the Nagas (2011) and The Oath of the Vayuputras (2013) — has over 2.5 million copies in print with gross retail sales of over Rs 70 crores, making it the fastest selling book series in Indian history, no wonder they call him ‘India’s first literary popstar’ (a name given to him by  world-renowned film director Shekhar Kapur) and Forbes Magazine has listed Amish, an IIM-C alum, amongst the 100 most influential celebrities in India, three years in a row. Wow!

Shitiz and our Dad (my father in law) are already a big fan of Shiva Triology, so Shitiz had a good time chatting with Amish! We even got few books signed for ourselves and Dad 🙂 High time I pick up his book now!!

All together it was a pretty nice event, cocktails and food, both good too.

Few pictures from the event:

And few shameless selfies 😛

Now coming to the outfit!

Aren’t we seeing a lot of shirt dresses these days? Ramps to streets, magazines to instagram, shirt dresses are practically everywhere. Best thing about shirt dresses is, unlike the regular dresses (at least most of them), shirt dresses let you breath! Comfortable yet totally chic.

Usually one tends to wear shirt dresses on a causal outing/ occasion right? But I wore mine to this cocktail event yesterday. While wearing a shirt dress is practically a no-brainer, when it comes to wearing your shirt dresses on a cocktail evening or any occasion that demands a mix of glam and chic, shirt dresses can be tad tricky.

Before I share the pictures of I wore mine, here are basic do’s and don’ts:

1) The fabric matters, you can’t just wear a shirt dress made out of any fabric. Some shirt dresses made out of certain fabrics including cotton are strictly for day time. The one I wore was satin-ish.

2) Pair it with right accessories, team your shirt dress with some statement pieces and heels to go with.

3) Avoid prints and patterns that in general won’t go with a cocktail do, like anything too graphic.

4) Add a bit of bling!

5) The right structure matters too! A-lines/skaters are pretty safe to play with for a glam do.

Here’s how I wore my shirt dress:
